Eric Edwards (born August 4, 1980) is a former American football tight end who played for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League during the 2004 and 2005 NFL seasons.
Louisiana State University (2000-2003)
Redshirt freshman
Eric saw his first action for the Tigers after redshirting as a true freshman in 1999. Eric Played in 10 games with no starts, caught five passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, and made a tough over-the-shoulder grab for a career-best 34-yard reception vs. Kentucky. He also caught a 25-yard TD pass against Kentucky for his first career score. Eric bulled over an Ole Miss defender at the goalline for 32-yard TD reception against the Rebels. He had a 19-yard reception vs. Western Carolina in season opener and had a 17-yard grab against Tennessee that set up a Tiger score two plays later for a 24-6 first-half advantage over the Vols.
Sophmore (2001)
Caught two passes for 29 yards and two scores, and he had a 3-yard TD reception vs. Tulane and then a 29-yard TD against Mississippi State.
Junior(2002)
LSU’s starter at tight end. He Played in 11 games with 11 starts and missed two games (The Citadel and Miami (Ohio) with a foot injury). He was an Outstanding blocker who also gave LSU quarterbacks a big target. He finished his junior season with six receptions for 35 yards. He csaught two passes for 10 yards against Alabama and had single catches against Virginia Tech, Florida, South Carolina and Arkansas.
Senior (2003)
During Eric’s senior season, he was a second-year starter at tight end for the Tigers who had developed into one of the best all-around tight ends in school history. He combined good hands with outstanding blocking ability for the Tigers. He played in all 14 games for the Tigers in 2003 with 13 starts. He did not start against Georgia on Sept. 20 when the Tigers opened in a 4-wideout set. He was ranked fourth on team with 16 catches for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He caught a 4-yard TD pass in the second quarter of LSU’s 33-7 win over South Carolina, Added a 3-yard TD reception in the second quarter of LSU’s 27-3 victory over Alabama, and Caught a career-best 5 passes for 37 yards vs. South Carolina. Those 5 catches were the most by an LSU tight end in a single-game since 2001 when Robert Royal (formerly a member of the Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, and Cleveland Browns) caught 5 passes in a win over Utah State. Eric caught at least one pass in 9 games in 2003 and Had 3 multiple-catch games.
National Football League
Eric Edwards played with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. During the 2004 season Eric played in 16 games and had a total of 5 receptions for 51 yards. During the 2005 season Eric had 12 receptions for 133 yards and 1 touchdown. It was the only touchdown of Eric’s professional career.
